Choosing a lampshade shape and style can have the most significant impact on the overall look of your light. We’ve created this blog to describe all of the various forms of lampshade styles available, to make your new lampshade purchase much more manageable. Before choosing a lampshade, read on to learn more about the multiple types of lampshade designs and shapes that we offer.
Bell Lampshades
Bell lampshades possess a curved structure which tapers from a narrower top to a broader base. Either conical or shaped around an angled square or hexagonal frame, the significant feature of a bell lamp shade is the curved nature, fanning out at the base and casting light wider below than at the top.
Conical Lampshades: Coolie, Empire and Euro Lampshades
All three of these lampshades feature a similar design, with a conical shape, widening at the bottom. The only way to tell these types of shades apart is the size difference between the diameter across the top of the lampshade and the base of the lampshade. Empire Lampshades have the smallest variance between top and bottom, European Lampshades a regular distance, and Coolie Lampshades feature the most significant measurement between upper and lower.
Drum Lamp shades
Drum lamp shades are perfect for creating a more contemporary look, with an equal or near-equal diameter measurement between the upper lampshade rim and the lower. This modern shape creates clean lines and suits a variety of table lamp styles.
Rectangular Lamp Shades and Square Lamp Shades
These precise and angular lampshade styles look perfect when paired with a similar square or rectangular lamp base. Rectangular Lampshades and Square Lampshades suit modern and contemporary interiors with linear and geometric influences but would also suit a variety of other decorative themes.
Oval Lamp Shades
A unique lampshade shape, Oval Lampshades work well with light fittings or lamps with a defined front and back and are a more unusual lampshade shape. We love this style for its uniqueness, and for its versatility to work in small spaces where a streamlined profile or fitting closer to a wall is required. Soft and elegant, this is a refined option for your lighting.
